Current sector challenges and opportunities – and the role your research skills could play in responding to them
The latest sector policy and development context – and where your research perspective can add value
By the end of the workshop, you will have;
A better understanding of recent influential policy, research, and strategy in the cultural sector
Heard from leading cultural professionals working in digital transformation and shifting organisational infrastructure, and had the chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges of addressing these areas
Considered how your research expertise and critical thinking could add value to the cultural sector in addressing key challenges and opportunities

These online workshops are designed specifically for you
PURPOSE: These workshops will ‘lift the lid’ on the reality of working in and collaborating with the creative industries and cultural sector. They will help you develop your knowledge, skills and networks to pursue creative jobs and research collaborations.
HOSTS: Workshops will be hosted by experienced cultural leaders Hannah Bird and Dr Ceri Gorton (Co-Directors of Bird & Gorton), who work with organisations including Arts Council England, National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, Imperial War Museums, The Space, Nesta, DCMS, and the British Council.
BOOK YOUR SPACE: There will be at least 30 spaces available at each of the workshops, which are open to students across all SWW DTP cohorts and will be hosted in Zoom. Each session will be tailored to your interests and priorities, and you will be asked to complete a short registration survey when you book to inform the workshop design
All workshops include;
Q&A sessions with high level speakers and senior leaders from the creative industries, cultural organisations, as well as national funders and policymakers
Detailed insights into how the creative industries and cultural sector really work – and what this means for you in terms of jobs and collaborations
Top tips from sector decision makers on how to communicate your research and value as a potential non-academic employee or collaborator
Practical activities to develop your understanding and share what you know
Opportunities to develop your own creative network
Follow-up ‘Office hours’ with Bird & Gorton to provide tailored support for questions and ideas that arise as a result of the workshops
