SWWDTP Residential Training Events

In addition to the residential induction event that all new SWWDTP students will attend in their first term of study with the DTP, we also hold two mandatory residential training events each year for our students:

  • the Autumn Gathering, a two-day event where our students develop connections and collaboration projects such as Research Clusters, the Question Journal and other activities, and receive collective skills training for research and beyond. Our 2024 event had a focus on community engagement and research impact.
  • the Summer Gathering, a two-day student conference and networking event with other SWWDTP students, alumni, and some of our partner organisations. Our 2024 event focused on career development within and beyond academia.

Online Training

Throughout the year, our students can access online training courses. This provision is developed in response to the self-reported needs of the current student body. Here are details of our current training for Autumn 2024

SWWDTP also delivers wellbeing support. In the past this has included, for example, the following sessions delivered by a trained psychologist:

  • Smart Self-Care and Personal Growth Programme
  • PhD researcher support programme involving a series of events and webinars
  • 1:1 sessions involving a mixture of coaching, mentoring, and emotional support

DEI Training Focus for 2025/26

In 2025/26 our DEI training and wellbeing offering will be further developed in response to recommendations from our SWWDTP Diversity and Inclusion Programme Student Advocates.

We anticipate that these recommendations will cover key themes including promoting inclusion within SWWDTP; promoting best practice in DEI within and beyond SWWDTP; and supporting ethical and reciprocal engagement with external communities and partners.
